How it works
Set up the hardware
A Pioreactor only requires two pieces: a Raspberry Pi, and our custom Pioreactor hardware. The Pioreactor hardware fits snuggly on any Raspberry Pi.
Load up our custom Pioreactor software and you're ready to go.
Use just one, or create a cluster of Pioreactors
Pioreactors can be used together to scale out your experiments.
Wirelessly connect multiple Pioreactors to create your own bioreactor cluster and control them all from a single interface!
Give your cultures a home
Add media to the 20mL vial, and innoculate with your favourite yeast, bacteria, or algae. The glassware and caps are fully autoclavable, and caps are designed for multiple inputs & outputs.
Add pumps for liquid handling
You can attach up to three peristaltic pumps to a Pioreactor for chemostat, turibdostat, or any other custom dosing automation.
You can add valves, motors, bubblers, or any other hardware that needs power.
Watch your cultures grow in realtime
Now that you've set up your hardware and culture, you can visit the Pioreactor web interface. The interface is hosted locally, on the Raspberry Pi. This is where you'll go to start activities and monitor your microbial culture.
Update your bioreactor settings
Using the Pioreactor interface, you can start automations and check on the status of tasks.
The interface can adjust any of your bioreactor settings. For example, you can adjust temperature, dosing frequency, lighting and mixing all through our web interface.
Control individual Pioreactors, or a cluster of Pioreactors in concert, from the interface.
Export your data
You can visualize your experiment in the Pioreactor interface, or export all of your experiment data to CSVs for further analysis.
The Pioreactor stores diverse data including readings, setting changes, events, logs, calibrations, and more.
